"Election Day" is a game of a US presidential election. The player or players each take the role of a candidate running for president. Campaign state by state, run media campaigns, and launch vicious attacks on your opponents. But of course, all this costs money, which you must raise either directly or get from Political Action Committees.

Some states are more responsive to one candidate than another. A Republican has an easier time gaining support in Texas. A Democrat has an easier time gaining support in California.

The game includes endorsements, debates, and other events.

Then comes election day! Results come in across the country from the east coast to the west, one state at a time. The candidate who had the most support in each state will probably win ... but his opponent may pull off a surprise upset victory! And states that are "too close to call" are always nail-biters.

The game provides for Democrats and Republicans, plus two third parties, Libertarians and Greens.

You can buy the board game or play the on-line version for free.

Can YOU plot a winning strategy for a presidential campaign?

Can be played solitaire. In the computer version, you play against the computer. In the board game, there are rules to control the actions of the non-player candidates -- kind of a "paper AI".

Computer version compatibility:

Tested with Chrome and Firefox. Should work with other browsers.

Tested on laptops, tablets (Kindle Fire), and cell phones.

Your Windows or iOS version shouldn't matter. If it doesn't work on your device, let us know and we'll investigate. But as it's free, we can't promise a lot of tech support.

  • Players: 1-4
  • Complexity: Moderate
  • Play time: Computer: 1 hour, Board game: 2 hours

Lest you wonder: Why is the online version free but the board game costs money? Because it costs us something to print copies of the board game, but it costs us basically nothing to let you download the online version. Because mostly I made this game for fun. Because I wanted to play it myself. And the online version was an experiment to see if I could make a game that would run as a web page rather than a download-and-install. And I frankly don't expect to have that many customers, and it wasn't worth the hassle of setting up a system to collect payments.
