At the top of the screen is a banner with the SkulKeeper logo. When you are logged in, it also displays your user name and family name at the top right.
Below this banner is the menu bar, a row of buttons. The dark blue menu buttons display a sub-menu as a second row below the first row. The light blue buttons do something directly. There are a few light blue buttons (action) on the main menu bar. A sub-menu is all light blue (action) buttons.
There are a few special menu buttons:
| Menu Pick | Action |
|---|---|
| Home | Clear the screen |
| Prev | Go to previous screen. This is similar to the browser Back button. As it is built in to the application it avoids some technical problems with the Back button. |
| Help | Display help for the current screen. Note this is displayed in a new window or tab. |
| Contact Us | Send an email to Electric Tactics. |
| Logout | Logout of the program and return to the login screen. |
Many places in the program show a list of "things" -- people, classes,
calendars, whatever -- for you to select from. These have one line for
each "thing", and one or more icons on the right to select an action.
See the list of icons below. The most common icons are the "pencil"
(
),
which you click to edit the item; and the "faucet"
(
),
which you click to
fill some set of data. Exactly what "edit" and "fill" mean depends
on each context.
At the bottom of most lists is an add option, with a pencil and a plus sign
(
).
Click this to add a new record.
Most of the edit screens have add, delete, and update options.
When you select a record from a selection list with the edit icon, you get a display with the current values for that record. To update the record, change one or more of these values and click the "Update" button. The record will then re-display with the new values.
To delete a record, you select it, then click the "Delete" button. You are asked to confirm or cancel the delete. If you confirm, the record is gone.
To add a record, you select the add icon from the selection list. The program then displays a screen with all the values blank (or sometimes some default values filled in). Fill in the desired information and click Add to add the record.
The reports can be displayed in two formats: screen-friendly and printer-friendly.
The report menus have two icons:
"
" to select the
screen-friendly format, and
"
" to select the
printer-friendly format.
The screen-friendly format displays a report much like all the other screens in the system: There's a banner at the top, menus, etc. As the name implies, it is intended for when you want to view the report on the screen.
The printer-friendly format displays a report with no banner or menu bar, and with a simplified format. You can then print the report by pressing the "Print" button, and it should print reasonably attractively on most systems. Because they have no menu, printer-friendly reports are opened in a separate browser window or tab. When you are finished reading and/or printing the report, close this window by clicking the "Close" button or the browser close control, and the "regular" SkuleKeeper window should be visible again.
The following icons are found throughout the program. They have a generally consistent meaning wherever they are found.
| Icon | Name | What it's supposed to be | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edit | A pencil | Usually, edit the record shown on the line with this icon. | |
| Add | A pencil with a plus sign | Usually, add a record. | |
| Calendar | A calendar page | Display a calendar so the user can pick a date from a calendar page rather than having to type in the date. | |
| Fill | A faucet with water coming out | Fill in associated information. For example, from a class we might fill in schedule and grades. | |
| Screen | A computer window | Display a report in screen-friendly format, that is, with menus and colors. | |
| Paper | A sheet of paper | Display a report in print-friendly format, suited for the user to press a Print button and send to the printer. | |
| Check | A check mark | Select the item near the check mark. | |
| Happy | A smily face | On progress screens: On-time. | |
| Very Happy | A toothy smily face | On progress screens: Early. | |
| Not Happy | A straight face, not smiling or frowning. | On progress screens: Late. | |
| Sad | A frowning face | On progress screens: Very late. |
