This page does some of the mechanical work for playing Election Day. Namely, it simulates drawing cards from the state deck and many of the die rolls. It is NOT a computer version of the game. You still need a copy of the board game to play.
Describe the players in the game, both human and robo. For each, select a party, personality, strength, and whether it is robo or not. The program selects random personalities for each candidate, and it prevents you from selecting duplicate parties or personalities.
If you are restarting an interrupted game, you will have to enter the candidate information over again. Also, you must enter the number of Surprise Cards and Debate Points that each candidate has. To do this, enter the candidate information, click Start, then on the next screen click Candidate, enter the correct numbers, and click Update.
For each turn, the program loops through all the candidates. The display is different depending whether this is a human or a robocandidate.
For human players, it gives a list of the actions available to you. Select an action and then click "Details". The program displays information to complete the action, depending on just what action it is. (We use this two-step process so you don't get an action twice because you "bounced" on the button, or get the wrong action because you missed when clicking. A little inconvenient but this was a regular problem in testing.)
(If you already have the maximum number of debate points or surprises, those options will be disabled so you can't pick them.)
Whey you have complete all your actions for the turn, click "Next" to go to the next player, or to start the next turn if you are the last player. The program does not allow you to do more actions than you are allowed.
For each Robocandidate, it lists the actions the robo will do this turn. For each action, click "Details" to see the additional information for this action.
For the first action on turn 1, click "Replace PAC" to do a Solicit PAC instead of the normal Campaign/first. This button should only be used for the first action on the first turn.
If the robo does not have enough money to do the action, click "Replace Fund" to do a Fundraiser instead.
If an action would be illegal, impossible, or pointless for some other reason, like "Debate Prep" when the robo already has the maximum niumber of debate points, click "Replace" and the program will pick another action. If this is also impossible click "Replace" again, etc. Note this is not up to the players. Click Replace only when called for by the rules.
If the robo already has the maximum number of debate points, Debate Prep will be automatically replaced with some other task. Similarly for surprises. Thus, you should almost never have to click Replace -- it should do it automatically. The program doesn't know how much money you have so it doesn't know when to do Replace Fund.
When you have completed the robo's turn, click "Next" to get the next candidate. If this was the last candidate, "Next" will take you to the first candidate, to begin the next turn.
For Negative, if there are more than 2 candidates in the race, the robo must first choose a target. The program tells you what state to use to pick the target. Pick the opponent who has the most voters in that state. (There is no need or reason to tell the program which opponent -- we mean just pick an opponent "in your head".) If the selected state has no voters or if two opponents are tied for most voters, click the button to choose another state. You might have to click this button multiple times to get a state that will yield a target. Once you have a target, click the button to get the list of states where that target must lose voters.
Note the program does not know what voter markers are on the board so it can't do anything requiring this information. This program is not a computer version of the game; it is an aid to playing the board game.
At the top of the screen are some buttons to give additional information or perform special functions.
Presumably you found the "Help" button if you're reading this text. Click it again and the text will go away.
Click "PACs" to get a list of all the PACs and how much money each candidate has received from each PAC.
Click "Candidates" to get a list of all the candidates.
Click "Poll" to conduct a poll. If you are playing with the optional rule that says that the winner of a poll gets a free Surprise, then after the poll click Candidates and update the Surprise count for the winner.
Click "Election" to see who wins when Election Day rolls around.
Donors become more interested. Fundraising actions from now on raise more money.
